Twilight

So I saw Twilight tonight. I wasn't expecting much, movies are never as good as the books. All in all it was pretty good. There were some parts where the acting was atrocious. They also didn't do a very good job of showing the love that Bella and Edward have for each other. With that said, it was a pretty good portrayal of the book, and I'm excited for New Moon to be movieized.

Oddly, I got an email with the story below and it just blew me away. I'm including the link and also copying the story just in case they realize how ridiculous they are.

http://www.landoverbaptist.org/2008/december/twilight.html

Freehold, Iowa - A Christian mother in the Landover Baptist Community was left absolutely devastated this weekend, and her teenage daughter is under 24-hour suicide watch at the Landover Hospital for the Saved. All of these terrible things happened because a naughty little teenage girl refused to listen her parents and ran off with her friends to see the terrible, hateful, anti-Christian film, Twilight.

Mrs. Jean Reynolds and her husband, Larry were sitting in the living room with the lights turned off when their daughter, Cindy May arrived home 15-minutes after curfew last Saturday night. "She took off her Veggie Tales™ sneakers at the door and tippy-toed quietly into the living room," said her mother. "When we heard her approach, my husband, Larry, snapped on the lights and yelled, 'Cindy May! Where in the sweet name of Jesus have you been, you little liar! It's 8:15!' Well, Cindy May was just so shocked, she started weeping uncontrollably. The Holy Ghost convicted her right there on the living room floor!" continued Mrs. Reynolds. "She ran up to her daddy, threw her arms around him and confessed, 'I didn't go to Bible study, Daddy! I didn't! My friend Martha, from our Special Educations class tricked me and made me see the movie, Twilight with her unsaved friends!'"

"Larry Reynolds looked his daughter in the eye," Pastor Deacon Fred told the congregation on Sunday morning. "He grabbed her by the hair, dragged her to the basement door and threw her down the steps. 'I'll deal with you in a minute, you rebellious, ugly little whore!' he yelled, and then slammed the door." Pastor Deacon Fred paused for a moment from behind the pulpit, and looked out over the congregation with a tear forming in his eye. Then he asked the question. "Is this the sort of behavior we tolerate in our Christian homes?" The congregation unanimously responded "NO!"

"Mr. Reynolds spanked his ugly teenage daughter over her naked hind side with a King James Bible until she stopped crying, and the only words that came out of her lips before she lost consciousness were, 'I'm sorry, Daddy - I'm sorry I let you down. May Jesus forgive me.'" said Pastor. "Her Godly parents waited two hours for Cindy to think about what she had done to embarrass the family before they called the police. When authorities finally arrived, they found little Cindy had managed to break both of her legs and was in a state of shock. Her bottom was so sore, she couldn't sit down. Jean and Larry Reynolds were both in tears, holding each other in the living room. Cindy was taken to the Trauma Ward at the Landover Hospital for the Saved and her parents were taken to church authorities for questioning and prayer.

"When I learned that Cindy Reynolds lied to her parents in order to attend a Picture House where this vampire movie, Twilight, was showing, I called the theater owner and had him shut down the show," said Pastor Deacon Fred. "And this trash will not be showing in any theater within a 100 square mile radius of Freehold, Iowa - so help me God! One little girl who wants to commit suicide after seeing this movie is enough for this town to handle!" Pastor continued. "And if it were not for her loving parents waiting up after curfew, and their diligent response, little Cindy might have come home after seeing Twilight that evening and done something awful to herself! She might have killed herself to become a vampire!" Pastor yelled.

"We all know that Cindy May is not one of the most attractive girls in this Church," said Pastor Deacon Fred. "That' doesn't mean she is loved any less than any other unattractive girl! Christian parents with unattractive teenage daughters should take heed that Twilight is a film that is driving ugly ducklings into fits of primal lust," he warned. "This movie preys on little unwanted girls, who can count the number of friends they have on one finger! And this is just plain sad! These young ladies need to be told they have a future! There are plenty of things they can do to better this world behind the scenes where they won't be seen in public. Twilight suggests they should end their lives and become vampiresses to spend eternity with handsome vampire gentlemen who don't care how unsightly a young gal is to look upon! Twilight is hitting America's poor teenage Christian girls in their heart strings, promising them the gift of eternal life with no social concerns! It is a perversion of the story of Christ.

Landover Baptist has already received over 5,000 e-mails from American Christian families who have experienced similar incidents like poor little Cindy May. Send us yours, as we gather these American horror stories and present our case to Congress. God willing, Federal authorities will invoke an act where we can take every book, movie, and ungodly item relating to the Twilight series, pitch them into a great big pile and burn them in a bonfire. "The smoke of this great fire, will be kindled from the flames of America's repentance!" Pastor Deacon Fred explains. "It will reach forth to the very Heavens! Unto the nostrils of the Living God! Glory! And all praise be to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, that His will be done, and our obedience be honored in regard to passing restrictive laws concerning the movie, Twilight before it causes Christian families more pain and suffering."

Well since I have had a few questions, I'll just answer them all here. OF COURSE I'M GOING TO SEE TWILIGHT!!! I'm actually going to be patient and wait out the weekend and go on Monday night. it looks like it's going to be good. I'm excited. For those who don't know, I'm in love with Alice Cullen. She's hawt! I also think they made Jasper look totally lame. Oh well.

Then two days after that I'm off to Maui to get married!!! Should be a good week.

Catching up...

It's been a while since my last post. Some quick info to catch up.

First things first. I have a new addition to the family. She's a 13 week old Plott Hound we named Harper. So far she's been a good little bitch for us. Most important, she still has the puppy breath!

Halloween was a lot of fun. I had a little penguin and Iron Man with me in tow while I went house to house getting candy. One day they'll have kids to get them candy too and they'll start to really enjoy Halloween.

After that Jasmine and I got our invitation pics taken. We're getting married Dec. 1 in Maui. All who want to join are more than welcome! The reception is going to be Dec 13, so look for your invite soon. Here are some untouched pics to give you an idea...

Learning learning

She's growing up so fast I can't believe it. She's almost potty trained. She likes to wave at the water going down the toilet and say, "bye bye water." She also has known her ABCs for a while and loves to do flash cards and read. Here are some awesome vids.

She said YES!!!

So of course she said yes. I mean, she picked out the ring, so I kinda figured. I was nervous because I wanted to make it perfect, or at least memorable. I took her to Cascade Springs, which is a park-type area with a lot of streams, bridges, and walkways. I took her to the top bridge, and got down and asked her. It was pretty good. Below are some pics:

Sorry...

I have to aplogize to everyone out there. I made a promise to update the blog more often, and I've failed this week. I have been sick most of the week, and even missed work twice because of it. From this week, nothing new...other than the fact that I picked up the engagement ring and will be popping the question this weekend. Wish me luck!

Who knew?

Tonight we went to Sam's Club for no reason other then to get a cheap meal and look around. They have their Halloween decorations out and I thought it would be fun to see how Noah would react. Watch the hilarity ensue below:

After that we made our way to the stereo section. Just another vid below to watch how awesome my kids are...

Update

Well, since my last post a few things have been going on.

First off 'lil Keaghan started Kindergarten. I had a hard time with it surprisingly, but he's excited so I am too. I was able to go see him off to school on his first day, and it was so cute with all the little ones there standing in line. No way was I that cute when I was that age. He's my little man and it saddens me a little to see him all grown up.

Also I went to my 10 year high school reunion. I know, I'm old. It was a lot less crappy than I expected. I feel comfortable saying that I actually had a good time. I was a bit nervous of what others would think of me (lame I know). If we think about it, I haven't really accomplished much. I didn't finish college, I don't have some lucrative career, I didn't win the lottery. I will admit though that I have been blessed with a great family, two wonderful children, a job that I love, and a girlfried who I can't get enough of and who also adores me (for some reason!). So it was good to see some old faces, if any of you see this, hopefully it isn't 10 more years before I see you again.

On an entertainment note, I got the new Death Cab For Cutie Album "Narrow Stairs," highly recommended. More music, Coldplay is coming to Salt Lake on my birtday 11.22 and we may be going. I'm pretty stoked because they pretty much rock. I also finished "The Hobbit" finally, and I'm on to Fellowship. One day I'll start reading big boy books, but for now I'm just enjoying the fact that I'm reading at all. Finally, and most importantly, according to the official Twilight movie site www.twilightthemovie.com they've pushed the open date forward 3 weeks to 11.21.08. Happy Birtday to me!

Breaking Dawn...

...is amazing. I won't say anything in regards to details since some are still reading it or haven't even been able to get their copy yet. It's pretty awesome. Hope you all enjoy

Books are great

So, I didn't post about it at all, but I read "The Host." I loved it. It was pretty slow, but I will for sure read it again. Thank you Rachel for letting me borrow it.

More importantly tomorrow marks the day that the 4th installment to the Twilight series comes out. I passed Barnes and Noble today to find a line a football field long to get wristbands. Wristbands! Basically these people are standing in line, just to get the opportunity to stand in line again tonight at midnight. Crazy crazy crazy.

To anyone who hasn't read any of these books, I highly recommend them. Again, I hadn't read any books since I was forced to read them in school, and I never really read those either. I loved the twilight series and finished it in 2 weeks. I read The Host in about 3 weeks.

Now I'm on to "The Hobbit." My fave movies are the Lord of the Rings trilogy so I'm starting with the Hobbit and will be on the the LOTR books. Yes, I'm a geek. I'm okay with it. I just have to thank my awesome girlfriend for introducing me to reading. I love it and can't believe I didn't do it before.

Twlight #2

I totally forgot. I saw a new Twilight trailer when I went to see Dark Knight. Enjoy:

Dark Knight

So, just a quick one to tell everone out there to go see Dark Knight. It lives up to the hype. I saw it on Friday night, and will see it again in a heartbeat. The story actually gets you thinking, and Heath Ledger is amazing. I didn't find myself thinking, "Heath is doing a good job as the Joker." I just thought that he was the joker. Hard to explain, go see for yourselves and report back.

Silly Charlie

Ashley told me to look this up on Youtube and I thought it was rather funny. Enjoy.

My quest...

I'm on a quest to get to 165 lbs. I thought I'd use this as some additional motivation for me. I'm proud to say after one week, I've moved from 188.6 lbs and 30.6% body fat to 187.8 lbs and 28.3% body fat. I've got a 16 week plan so hopefully I can make it by then. Wish me luck. Also...any tips, suggestions are welcome.

Thursday, July 3, 2008

It's official...

July 18th at 8:00pm I'll have my butt planted to see Dark Knight with my girlfriend Jasmine. Yes I know I'm a geek, but I couldn't wait. The worst part is that I'm going the next day with the boys. This should be the best movie of forever so there. Enjoy the trailers:

Twilight

So at the poking and prodding of everyone in the world, I decided to try and read Twilight. I'm not a book reader. Truth be told, I think I've read 2 books for enjoyment my entire life. That being said I was pretty sceptical that I'd end up reading more than a chapter. Well I started the book yesterday afternoon, and I'm proud...maybe embarrassed, to say that I'll be done tonight. It's pretty amazing and I can't wait to read the next one already. Enjoy the trailer below:

San Diego Day3

Well, I'm a day late in posting this. We boought a waterproof disposable camera for yesterday's kayak tour, and didn't get them put on a disc until this afternoon. We started out yesterday on the kayak tour. We left La Jolla beach and took a 2 hour tour to the La Jolla caves and around the area. It was great. We saw a bunch of Sea Lions sunning themselves on the cliffs. It was pretty sweet. From there we walked around the shops and met up with a friend of mine who was also in town from Utah. We went to lunch and then we split up and Greg and I went back to the hotel to get ready for the night. We spent a few hours by the pool and hot tub afterwards and met some females who were in the hotel. They were off to dinner so Greg and I went to dinner ourselves at this awesome Italian place called the Venetian. We finished and came back to watch Juno in our car. We don't have a DVD player in our room, but we do in our car. So we watched Juno and then we went and spent some more time in the hot tub. The ladies were there again and we talked to them for a while. That was nice. They are from Michigan and were in town for a school test. Below are some pics, enjoy.

Sandy Aygo Day 2

Today was pretty fun. We started off by heading to the gym and getting some continental breakfast. From there we went to the beach. Ocean Beach in San Diego was our destination and it was a lot of fun. It was overcast the whole time we were on the beach. We started walking on the pier and through the shops, and then it got sunny...just in time for us to leave. We came back and got in the hot tub and laid out. From there we got ready for the Padres vs Reds game. It was fun, but way too cold. We stayed for about half the game. We wound up coming back to the hotel and sitting in the hot tub again. From there we wanted to hit up a casino but couldn't find one. At this point we're just watching some SNL so enjoy some pics...

San Diego Day 1

Well, technically this is day 2. Greg and I flew in last night and landed around 10:30 local time. We went to Avis to get our car, only to find out that we rented our car from Alamo. So we took the shuttle back to the airport and waited for the Alamo shuttle. We finally got our car and checked into our room about 2:00 am local time. We went to bed and that was about it.

This morning we woke up and ate breakfast at Denny's then were off to Wal Mart for some supplies. Apparently the city of San Diego doesn't allow Wal Mart by our hotel for some reason. We made the trek and got taken care of, then I guess I fat-fingered the GPS so on the way back I took us about 15 miles out of the way. Our Denny's/Wal Mart trip ended up taking 3 hours. Good times.

After that we sat in the hot tub and then went to get massages. After the massages we went to Balboa park which is a really cool historic park with a lot of beautiful scenery.

We came back from the park and took a cab to the Gaslamp District to eat and walk around. Below are some pics...enjoy.

Our room and a view from our balcony

Our car...Cadillac STS

Greg and I in the Chinese friendship gardens by a sign that says something...not sure what it is though.

Just a cool shot in the sunset

By the fountain, so happy!

Finally our waitress and the other hot waitress from our fine eating establishment.

Well then...

So sometimes I don't really know what to write about. I suppose I could tell you about my same-old day at work calling rich people and kissing their butt. Or tell you about the awesome laundry folding I did yesterday. Really my life is fairly mundane, which after the past year is really nice. I do want to post more but a lot of time just don't have any "original" material to write about. I decided if that's the case, I'll just post some music, since I love music more than life itself.

Here is a great artist I've just come across named Amos Lee. This song is absolutely amazing. I've included the lyrics below as well. Let me know what you think, and if this was just a stupid idea to begin with.

"Arms Of A Woman"

I am at ease in the arms of a woman.
Although now,
most of my days i spend alone.
A thousand miles,
from the place i was born.
But when she wakes me,
she takes me back home.

Now, most days,
i spend like a child.
Who's afraid of ghosts in my mind.
I know, there aint nothing out there.
I'm still afraid to turn on the lights.

I am at ease in the arms of a woman.
Although now,
most of my days a i spend alone.
A thousand miles,
the place i was born.
When she wakes me,
she takes me back home.

A thousand miles,
the place i was born.
When she wakes me,
she takes me back home.

I am at ease in the arms of a woman.
Although now,
most of my days i spend alone.
A thousand miles,
from the place i was born.
When she wakes me,
she takes me..
Ya, when she wakes me,
she takes me back home.
When she wakes me,
she takes me back home.

Thank you mama

Just a quick thank you to my mom. She threw up for 7 months with me, and even worse, has dealt with my crap for the last 28 years. I love you and could never thank you enough.

Another thank you to my second moms. I have a few, and they know who they are. I love you as well and hope you're all doing well.

Finally thank you to the rest of the moms out there. It's TOUGH to be a father, and even more to be a mother. You're all amazing, and I do NOT envy you're job at all. Mothers, not money, are what makes the world go round.

Love you all. Happy Day

Old Friends

This past Friday it was a nice day, and Keaghan had been asking to see my friend Joey. A little back story:

I had two friends growing up named Joey Hawkins and Jim McCarthy. We went to school together, starting at Altara Elementary. Go Kittyhawks! We were all really close all the way up through high school.

May of 1996 Joey was killed at a party over a simple misunderstanding and becuase one idiot was doped up on drugs. It was pretty traumatizing for me at the time, not only because he died, but because how it happened.

December of 1997 Jim died while hanging out the door of a Jeep. He fell out and got ran over. Before Joey died, he and Jim had become best friends. On Jim's casket was a picture of the two of them during better times.

So on to the present. Keaghan had been asking to see my friend Joey and so since it was a nice day out I figured it was as good a day as any. We visited both of them and I let the kids run around. Sounds a little morbid, but it's really peaceful, really beatiful, and obviously really safe.

Below are some pics of the headstones for those who haven't been able to visit for a while, or ever.

You'll notice on each headstone that there are some dandylions. Keaghan felt bad that there weren't any flowers for them so he picked some himself. What a sweet boy.

Catching up...

It seems to be a recurring theme here, but again it's been a while since my last post.

Keaghan started soccer, so you know I had to take pics.

Love the smile

All in all it's been fun. Keaghan loves to play goalie, and he's pretty good. Then again I'm biased. I have as much fun watching him play sports as I ever did playing, probably more. Hopefully he keeps it up because it's a blast.

The Ladies...

After several minutes of deep thought about this subject, I've realized that I'm hopeless when it comes to talking to the ladies. If I see someone I'd like to talk to, I'll run through about 7394 situations in my head within the first glimpse of her. Then I usually tuck tail and run the other way. I know I shouldn't be such a puss about it and grow a pair, but that's easier said than done. Where I really get caught up is when I try to figure out what to say at first. Obviously there is, "Hi I'm Joey, what's your name?" But then after that? I am open to suggestions. Just hit me with it...

...so you're telling me there's a chance! YEAH! (Dumb and Dumber)

It's time

It's been a while since I've posted. Not too much has been going on for us recently. I wanted to let y'all know that we're still alive and kicking, and just trying to live life. Hope all is going well and I'll post more when I have more substance!

Happy Time

My last post was done while I was angry. Sorry about that. I wanted to just write and let everyone know that I'm thankful for all your support and as silly as it sounds, it helped. I'm sure we could all use a good laugh, so enjoy this from Flight of the Conchords...

Time to Vent...

Okay, I just need to get some things off my chest. Keaghan has been sick the past few days. His mom had him overnight and told me he was really sick and started getting sores on his tongue. However, she refused to take him into the doctor for some reason. I was at work, and she had the day off. So finally I just made an appointment and told her she needed to take him. She wound up taking him and he has strep and an ear infection. The doc gave him a prescription for some antibiotics, and naturally she wouldn't go get it. She had her new fiance with her, so all she would have had to do is just get out of the car and leave all them there. It's not like she needed to take the kids with her. This is where it gets good. I go pick up the kids from her, she doesn't have them ready when I get there and just takes them to my car with no shoes and no coat on. HE IS SICK FOR CRYING OUT LOUD AND HE DOESN'T HAVE A COAT OR SHOES ON! So anyway, I take them to Target to get his medicine, and as I'm parking he says he needs to throw up. He's such a smart boy, he covers his mouth with his hands and keeps it all in his hands. At this point I'm teary-eyed because my little boy is so sick, and he's worried about not messing in the car. Well then we get the window open, and he throws up all over the side of my car. Then I get him out of the car and he does more on the parking lot.

Here's about where I go from sad to really angry. Angry because everything just seemed to add up all at once and really weighed on me. The fact that his mom didn't even want to take him to the doctor, and also the fact that she didn't get his medicine. I am probably overreacting here, but I just find it hard to believe that she cares so much about him, yet can't do what's needed to get him better. Ok, I'm done. It's getting late and I have to work in the morning...

I'm off to Las Vegas for the extended weekend. I wanted to leave you all with a little something to enjoy while I'm gone.

My Boy

After making the video for the girl, I wanted to make one for the Keaghan too. I love this song. It's called "Closer" by Better Than Ezra. Hope you enjoy.

Angel

This song is from the new Jack Johnson album. It's a great album and this song reminds me of my little angel. Hope this works, it's my first vid. Let me know what you think.

Rescue me!

For those who don't know, my baby's mama keeps the kids with her on Tuesday and Wednesday nights because she doesn't work the following days. Never fail I get a call one or both of those nights from Keaghan wanting to come "home" to be with daddy. It's almost like he wants me to come resuce him. I try not to give in, because this is her time with the kids. So last night I decided to go pick him up and just spend some time with him hanging out. I also was able to bribe him by telling him if he helped me clean my car, I'd give him a dollar and we could go to the store for a treat. After he earned his dollar we went to K-Mart and he picked out his bew fave treat...Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Whoever thought of combining chocolate and p.b. was a genius. Quick story, enjoy your day.

Bear Cubs, McDonald's, and Linkin Park

Well today my mom came over and took us to Sportsman's Warehouse to see some baby bear cubs. Well when we got there the line was just barely inside the store, and the cubs were all the way to the back of the store. We decided it wasn't worth the wait and went to McD's to get some breakfast.

Later on in the day my sis Ash got me some tickets to see Linkin Park. I love their music and was way excited to get them. I didn't want to go alone, I'm not brave enough, so I began the quest to get someone to go with me. Now I must smell so bad that it was coming through the phone, because I couldn't get anyone to go with me. I probably asked 20 people and everyone had other things they were doing. I suckered little Ariel to go with me and it was great. Coheed and Cambria opened for them and they were terrific. If you don't know them, look them up. They're awesome. Then LP came out and rocked the joint. They did a great job and kept me on my feet the whole time. Thanks to Ash for getting me the tickets, Lindsay for watching the baby, and Ariel for going with me.

Father-Son Night

Keaghan and I had some alone time tonight. I bought us tickets to go see The Spiderwick Chronicles. We both enjoyed the movie, although he'll tell you that he didn't get scared. All in all it was a great night and I'm glad we were able to spend some time with just the two of us.

That's Keaghan by the huge Wall-E display.

I'm a geek for Ironman, so I had to take this.

Sorry about the lighting on these, it was a little dark. I love my boy. Hope he never questions that.
